Winning is a complex business

Here at FrogBox, we love to win. We try very hard indeed, so we are kind of used to it, but the feeling of knowing that you’ve given your all and won on the back of it never dulls.

But winning is a complex business.

You’ll notice that the blogs on this website are not full of ‘we won this’ and ‘they lost that’ stories. This is a conscious decision. Although we’re all very competitive and strive to be the best, we don’t want to rub people’s noses in it – do we?

It’s not arrogant to be proud of winning. Human nature and natural selection (if you believe in it) favours winners. That moment of triumph, that release on endorphins is addictive; once you’ve experienced it – you want more.

But there is something to be said about being gracious in victory as well a defeat. It’s certainly what I try to teach my children, although my youngest seems to struggle with being gracious in either, especially where Scalectrix is concerned.

A while ago, a then ‘new’ client said to me “Aren’t you proud of winning our account?” Somewhat perplexed, I replied positively only to be questioned as to why we hadn’t posted the win on our website.

We could do, but what would it do? Ok, so if Mr. Big from Big Holdings decided to look for a new Marcomms Agency and stumbled upon our website, he might be impressed to find some of our client’s names and give us a call; but does this really happen?

Our business mainly comes from personal contacts and recommendations. Our credentials are therefore passed on by our existing clients. We don’t expect our website to open doors, that’s what we do.

I know it sort of goes against the grain a little, considering our business, but this is the way it works. We are so entrenched within our clients businesses that we couldn’t do it for hundreds and hundreds of new accounts tomorrow.

We need to grow at a manageable pace, ensuring that we have the right people in the right positions, so that our clients continue to receive the service and results that they are accustomed to.

Yes we did win a particularly good account last month, it’s no secret. But you’ll have to phone us Mr. Big if you want to find out who it was.
