Working alongside the Festival organisers and local council staff, the Centre decided that in order to celebrate the festival and its contribution to Christchurch local life, a commemorative cake should be created, a ‘Cake for Christchurch’.

The call was made via the local press, radio and on the Centre’s own website for cake bakers, young and old, to dig out their old recipes or indeed create a new recipe and enter it into the competition.

And on the first day of the Festival the official tasting was conducted in the main pavilion right in the heart of the Centre, by Festival Patron renowned local and TV chef Lesley Waters and two of the Festival’s driving forces including the President.

Keen chefs from Bournemouth travelled to attempt the crown, but it was local chef, Paul Craddock with his scrumptious Organic courgette and chocolate cake that took the title and a prize package donated by tenants.

Judges praised the taste and moistness of his creation in a close contest which included Paul’s own son!

The recipe has since been adopted by local café, Blend and has been added to the Centre’s website for budding chefs to create themselves after a very successful local launch to the public – who unanimously declared it delicious!
