While traditional ‘key trading periods’ just aren’t ‘sexy’ in the minds of many marketers, the fact remains that they are crucial to many of our clients whether in good or challenging economic times.
This year is no exception and continuing our clients’ key belief that shopping centres are a crucial sector of their local society; once again both the Harvey Centre and Saxon Square looked to celebrate local mothers and their children.
Indeed it has again been heartening to see the response from both the public and the media to the stories uncovered by such traditional PR.
In Harlow our search for the area’s most deserving mother uncovered the uncomplaining and modest Mrs Theresa Ottosen who is currently battling Breast Cancer. While this is sadly not uncommon, what stirred the judges was the fact that both her daughters nominated her, neither of them knowing the other was doing so! Indeed when Theresa was first contacted by us, she thought it was a hoax call and didn’t believe that she had been entered into and had won the competition!
In Saxon Square there was a similar tale of strength and dignity. Mrs Zena Wilks had been nominated by her teenaged sons who wanted to celebrate her love and support. Indeed Mrs Wilks was so touched by her son’s gesture that she not only donated part of her prize to them, but she also donated her own money to two local charities that had supported her through her own battles with ovarian cancer and possible infertility.
While such stories of warmth, courage, dignity and modesty are not uncommon amongst our clients’ customers, the celebration of these everyday ‘heroes’ sometimes is and it was our privilege this year to meet and gain inspiration from two remarkable women.
